Wow Folks!

I just got my new Tedd V-TWIN catalog,
and opened first to the page 667 Linkert listing of course.

And low and behold, I see a photo of my Sunnen and torque-plate fixture, and two of my photos with my signature pool-table felt back ground, used to promote their rebuild services.

Here it is online: http://www.vtwinmfg.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/VTwinProd5_10101_10102_3383952_-1_142247_142648_142660_142662

These photos were stolen from the web, possibly this very forum, or here, http://www.antiquemotorcycle.org/bboard/showthread.php?21359-M61B-Carb-body, or here http://www.hydra-glide.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=7196, or other forums I have posted upon.

I am NOT servicing for, or through Tedd, but only through my own shop.

Can anyone refer me to an appropriate attorney?

Wish I could recommend an attorney for you Cotton but alas I know none in the field. However, you can bet Tedd Cycle had his attorneys go over the add before he had it put into print. I assume that is why the disclaimer "Picture may not be an actual representation of item" is posted below the picture. What is usually on the web is accessible to all unless pictures are copyrighted, along with water marks, or computer language embedded in a picture to prevent downloading or printing.

I wish to thank our forum host for the wide edit window!
(That last link should work now....)

And Pa!
That's a pretty lame disclaimer.
And its just like an attorney to say go ahead and pirate someone else's handiwork, and pass it off as your own.

Considering the quality of their catalog hardware, I shudder to consider the quality of the work.

Personally I would say it is a lame disclaimer as well. I'm not a lawyer though. I see it as plain dirty business trickery. Not only on you but on the consumer.

Cotten. Unless your photographs were copyrighted I don't think you have a claim. Pictures posted on the net are public domain. But Tedd shouldn't have been so lazy and should have taken his own pictures.

It's bizarre, Folks,...

That they would use the photo of my ancient Sunnen, and represent it as their own.
Surely they have something better!

Cotton, my condolences on being blatantly ripped off by a company with no honor. They have probably copied your repair technique as well (only without your regard for quality). I recently received an email from V-Twin touting the fact that they now offer the Midwest Ultima clone (spelled r-i-p-o-f-f) of the S&S E carb. They were a little more "coy" when they put it in their catalog though. It is on page 335 with the only description being: "R" carburetor has 1-7/8" bore. How's that for full disclosure? I guess companies of a feather flock together. The danger posed by those carbs due to poor quality control has been documented elsewhere (magazine articles), but I suppose both companies are making enough money through their questionable business practices to afford enough insurance to settle a wrongful death suit or two and still come out ahead of the game.

It really is a shame that a company like V-Twin is so often the only source for many hard to find parts for the early bikes. Let's hope that S&S is able to continue its effort to expand its line of parts to the point where those who are concerned with quality can put their V-Twin catalogs in the dumpster where they belong.

Well Folks,...

My suggestion that they simply retain me as a consultant didn't go over well.

(Their loss, not mine.)

Although they will pull their website pics, there are probably thousands of their catalogs distributed world wide, and I should bite it.

Those who feel motivated to express their feelings should do so to VTwinMFG.com

Thanks,

Go figure Folks,...

Tedd's lawyers sent me an icy letter first!
And it is far from an apology.

Hi.They realy ripped you off ! Have you had any further comunication with vtwin?? Several months ago i sold one of my own design and manufactured chokes for the CV carbs as used on Harley to motorcyclepedia9913 not realizing it was Ed Doering of Vtwin mfg infamy. Sure enough he not only copied my design,he also used most of the wording from my ad in his ad except the made in USA of USA material !!.You can view his ad on his web site, look for cv carburetor enrichner .( it is currently on B.O. plus retail price is wrong as his newest confidenial price list shows dlr cost of 34.94 and retail of 58.23 !) View my ad on ebay ,item # 111410877499 to check it out . They are quite a piece of work but have not hurt my sales and they will never have the 100 percent good feedback as i have. (have sold over 650 )

Urganb!

I can find attorneys that will take my money to write a cease-and-desist letter, which is mute since Tedd's took down the photos from their website immediately (but then there are still the google of catalogs in hardcopy). Still, no lawyer I have talked to is interested pursuing further without a serious retainer that I can never recoup.

Intellectual property theft is a natural part of this brave new cyberworld.
One Mark Neberman ("Mr. Big") picked my brain about floats at http://www.hydra-glide.com/phpBB3/viewt ... 60&p=74758, and now is attempting to get into the act:
http://www.caimag.com/forum/showthread. ... o-Linkerts
Sadly, he didn't take a lesson, nor do his homework, as his "better" dimensions will probably produce an over-buoyant float. A sightglass for fuel level certainty, or a volume/weight determination are beyond his scope.

But his buddys all bitch about me anyway, so he'll make money off his tribals.
I already have the best customers in the world.
Sadly, the reputation of Nitrophyl may be sallied further than it already has by productions of obsolete formulae.

Folks,

I would really like to post Tedd's lawyers' insults, but I cannot convert a .pdf to upload to this site.

Anyone already subscribed to Adobe to do so?
Thanks if you can do this,

Sorry for the delay Folks,
(as if it matters...)

But here is Tedd's mouthpiece's rebuke.
JM&S4.JPG

Please note that I have no "site", and the photos were pirated from the AMCA, or possibly this forum.

My own attorneys, Dewey, Screwham, and Howe, no longer answer the phone.

PS: Pa! My scanner was a waste of money. This site's format wouldn't allow the attachments, no matter how I split them up and reduced them. So I took the .jpg with my camera, and it worked...

Oi Cotten I can feel your pain. Sometimes Vtwin also uses pictures of our front forks to promote their cheap taiwan crap! At some point they also started making electronic regulators, copies from ours.. Ofcourse theirs didnt work at all due to cheap and even wrong components, but their manual was a 1 on 1 copy of ours!

Samsup!

Maybe its time Tedd's victims joined together?

PS: If you have an up-to-date email for Larry E., I sure could use it in a PM about now...
Yet another USA supplier has "dumped" junk on me, so he is the only one I can trust.
