Speaking of the kicker gears, how does a 16 tooth mainshaft kicker gear, or a 14 tooth gear, both mate up to the kicker shaft gear? In my net-surfing research, I find no reference of having to change out both gears when going to a 14 tooth. ????

Just curious.

Not sure how the technical aspects of it is arraigned, but the kicker gear doesn't need to be changed, they just work.

It is due to the tooth profile on the gear. By changing the shape of the tooth the gear with a smaller or larger number of teeth will mesh just fine. Generator gears work the same way, they can be interchanged with no change to the idler gear. It isn't theory but is reality.

That's interesting, can't quite wrap my mind around it. !!! But...nothing new there. Well, since I had to change the bushing anyhow, I went ahead and got a new gear, ratchet thingie, bushing and all, and went with the 14 tooth. Didn't get the gear on the kick-shaft as it looked brand new.

Okay, thanks.
