Oil pump

Want to swap my Panhead oilpump for the correct Knuckle pump. Found a good unit. Anything important to consider? Can i actually pull the pump without opening the timing gear box?

I've never done it on a Knuck but several times on Shovelheads. It's just a little tricky. If the brake cross shaft isn't in the way I don't see why not.

Knuckle and Panhead drive shafts and pinion shaft gears are the same. You just need to make sure and not let the shaft push back into the case because the drive gear key can fall out. Always keep the shaft pulled tight towards the back of the bike. The only other issue is that when doing it like that it is impossible to check for binding issues. Be sure to check gear depth and clearance before bolting it all together.

There are at least seven different Knuckle oil pumps. What year is your engine?

What's your plans for the panhead oil pump?

The one that I have for my 58FL has some scoring in the gear cavity.
