WLA carb spacer ?

Hi Guys, Im confused with the carb spacer that seems to be used on some engines, Im using a M16 on a 42 WLA do I need to use one ? I don't see any solid answers anywhere. Thanks for your input.

Leo!

Military models with short manifolds used the spacer. Long manifolds do not require one.
Beware they were for 1¼" Model M carburetors, and your M16 is a 1" model.
