The -41 pipe has the flattened section in the middle, for clearance around the oil return pump, where the earlier pipe does not.

Re: 45 Front Exhaust Header Pipe Differences

Thanks. I am aware of the flat for the oil pump but the oil pump was added to the 45 at an earlier date preceeding 1941. There had to be another pipe used on the earlier pump type engines before 1941. I cannot find any front header pipes with a -36, -37, -38, -39, or -40 numbers noted in my parts books. Does not -41 mean the part was first used in 1941 ? I have an nos oem pipe with a factory sticker on it with a -41 part number....yet the pipe has the flat and fits my 42wla like a glove. Confused.....
