Strange Knuckle Case on ebay!!

It strikes me as odd that it has late style webs and early style bearing housing, don't you think?
engine numbers seem a little odd, but the belly numbers look o.k. to me.
Any thoughts?

I saw that one awhile ago. Shouldn`t that belly number year be a 47 ,instead of 46 ?

The belly numbers look OK, the case number looks like an owner or dealer stamp of a blank case, and the odd part appears to be a late style case sold as a replacement set for an early engine. H-D often combined later features in replacement parts so my guess is that is what it is.

I was thinking along the lines of a replacement case and dealer stampings myself. I just couldn't figure why the factory would make a case with the early style bearing setup in 1946. I guess because they could! It would just take dropping the early style insert into the mold at pouring time, I suppose. H'mm, strange doings down at the foundry

Whoever stamped the FL numbers ,must of had the shakes real bad that day.

I have seen a few of those blind hole replacement cases.

If this is a felony case, I fail to see a motive.

As authentic as it seems,.. it must be presumed innocent,... until proven otherwise.

I cannot see anything illegal in the stampings. On the other hand, I can easily see a Monday morning go back to work job of stamping. Sloppy yeah.....big deal ! It is Monday or a late night hangover. Sure as hell not gonna scrap them over it. If it looked to damn perfect, we would all jump on the too perfectness of it. JMHO

I do believe it is simply a replacement case stamped outside the MoCo. Obviously not H-D font on the stamps..

it is still real History, and a mystery too.
