Military surplus valve guides

Hi All,

I bought some military surplus valve guides off ebay, from Vietnam and have been very busy getting all the cosmoline of them. Does anyone know what they are made of typically? They look like steel.... What is your experience in using them on K models or what do you prefer. I had Rowe' in there at one time that looked like bronze, but they did not last real long... What do y'all recommend? What can you tell me about the military ones?

The only others we could find, now they want $29 dollars apiece for them?

Flatheads oil the guides so poorly that they need high silicone cast iron. Brass and bronze are a pore choice. Back when it was imposible to find replacement guides I would bore the old ones out and sleeve them wit a 6 cyl cat guide turned down. Cat and Ford tractors seeme to have the best castiron guides.
