KHK vin number raising

Come to think of it. I recall my neighbor's brother's 68 FLH had, what looked to be, a serial number on the left side of the neck. Bu I also have a 68 FLH and a 68 bigtwin frame that I beleive doesn't have this. Have to go on an archeology dig.

The number is a casting up under the seat neck!!!
Difficult to in all the numbers on this scoot.

BTW.....Is this a record on responses to a thread?...

Heading out to sea I'll ctach ya'all when I get back in a month. I hope I still gotta a flattie sitting in the garage....

I had to show you another example of the way that things don't allways follow the rules.

I have owned this bike for nearly 30 years and had it non-highway for several years because of not being able to find
pistons for it.When I had the numbers inspected I told him the history on it before he had time to comment. Afterwards
he told me that without the story he would have wanted to confiscate the bike.As most of you know the stars were not
applied until 1970.Well in '72 the cases fell the fate of a lot of early sportsters with a trany explosion grenading them.The
original cases were sent to harley for factory replacements and after a year and a half these were what were sent complete
with no belly castings.The inspector definately suggested that I get paperwork to that effect to carry with me if I traveled
out of state.

I possess a factory stamped 48 on 68 cases. My theory is that it was a scattered engine, returned for replacement.

A few years back, I rebuilt a 73 engine that had the correct number on the 'left' side of the engine with 4 stars across the normal # spot on the right. Every thing about it was 1982 except for the heads. And even tho the casting dates of the cases were in 82, the tappet block holes were 1/4-24 while the cam cover was 1/4-20. Another scattered engine replacement, I assume. They're out there!

question- the numbers start at 1001, ive heard different tales of numbers for my 37ulh. as far as how many were made and what no. mine is etc. were all 80s run on the same batch or just uh machines with uh and ulh machines with ulh,ers and ul with ul,s etc etc? my last 4 digits are a high number, in the 7000 range so it does not make sense in my dirty ole brain.

I have a 37UL7XXX 37-67XX Belly #'s Factory stamped, Both baffles in.

Regardless of model, All numbers start at 1001 if it were a FL,EL,WL, etc. No models will have the same #. This means that serial #'s are divided amongst the models.
