Unusual 45 Racer Cam Bearings

Check out this very interesting bearing setup for an old 45 racer. Looks like standard WL bushing cam gear shafts turned down to use caged rollers that fit into the original bushings.

I don't know why the builder did not use a more standard size needle bearing. One that would not require turning the cam shafts down so small or boring the case and cover bores very far oversize. Pa

Standard Sportster needle bearings fit the normal case bores. It is relatively easy to fit needle bearings to a 45. Unless you are a flat out racer, the benefit is minimal and the cost and effort not really worth it. Those cams could be re-fitted with standard shafts and made to work with normal parts, but at his price hardly worth it!
