I guess they lacked a #1 numeral stamp for the "restoration work" on this number boss.

"I" see what you mean. The K looks boogered also.

The heel an toe on the top and bottom of the K in the picture were actualy only stamped on race shop motors, so having a K and and H with heel and toes makes it somwhat doubtfull.

Actually old dealers and owners were responsible for a lot of that screwy number stuff.
The one shown has matching '56 case numbers, and a '54 front fender emblem. A little schizophrenia going on there!
And it seems the Brits just changed numbers whenever they liked to match log books and V5s. Numbers are actually inspected here for originality, you guys don't seem to care!

It's not strictly true to say that the Brits don't care, Holland is far worse ( being the European capital for ringing and re-registering stolen vehicles since the 1960s ) but it's certainly true that our procedures were developed and subsequently computerised at a time when there was a LOT of ex-WD and ex fleet bikes being sold at cery cheap prices, an almost unlimited supply of parts at near-scrap prices, a very high degree of interchangeability, and a widespread culture of building bitzas of various descriptions.
