testing tappets

anyone know a simple way to test tappets? i heard you could use a ball bearing and a vise but am not sure of how to go about it to get the correct results.

Well after 426 views I would think some one would have said "this is a way to check for leak down on the tappet." I have reused lot of tappets with good rollers and if they pass this test back in my engine they went, maybe I am just lucky!

squeze it between finger and thumb ,if it compresses its ,fubar , basically if you think one is duff check them all like this . duff one will be different to the rest . regards jib
