K frame value

Any of you guy's care to give an opinion as to what the value is of an un-molested K model frame?
Thanks

Re: K frame value

Hi, mike100m...

I'm not sure all the 52/55 K/KH frames are the same. I've got 2 but they're early, that's all I can say.

Hit the tubes lightly with a small steel hammer.

If it goes "ping", high pitch, bell type, it's thin wall chrome-moly tubes like mines, I was told only the 52 and 53 are like that but haven't had any real confirmation from anybody...

If it goes "pong", low pitch thud, it's std run of the mill thick wall tubes...

The 56 and later Sporty ones are definitively the "pong" variety!!!

Re: K frame value

Does it have the factory seat mount still on it? If so look at the right side and see what number and letter combination is stamped there. That will date it!
Also, how are the front tubes attached to the headstock? Small diameter directly attached, or sleeved on top?

Re: K frame value

Hi, RUBONE,

That's another way to know one's got an early K frame, they are not code dated... Both my frames are devoid of coding as was my 53KK...

Post 56 are for sure, I've seen some. Need someone with 54 and 55 bikes or frames to look at them and tell us...

Re: K frame value

Hi Mike, Patrick, and all I hope you are well. It's been a while since I last posted, since which we've had a few shakes over here!

You can check this thread - amongst others - for discussions and pics on this previously:

http://www.sscycle.com/tech/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=9719

Having owned a few of these frames, my estimates are as follows:

-52 head casting, no date code = 1952-early 1953
-52A head casting, has date code = late 1953-probably early 1955
-56 head casting (with the top stearing head bearing cup raised above the backbone as per later sportsters), has date code = I believe late 1955 (ie the start of the 1956 model run)

The earlier frames have the hollow foot peg mounts.

Re: K frame value

Date codes on a couple of my K frames, another one up in the rafters but didn't climb up to check it.
The 4H is from my original '55, the 3J is a '54 frame dated in '53.

Sorry George,
Duo-Glides are a little too modern for me. Good luck though, hope you find one. If I hear of one I'll let you know!

Re: K frame value

Mike, sorry for the intrusion on your thread...

Robbie, thanks..........thanks to the wonderful time difference, I just and I mean just missed out on a cherry 58 frame in Seattle, and I am going to Portland in May to visit family...........damn that would have been Perfect!

Still looking though.
