Just found you guys and seems a well rounded site
Have a big inch chop
A 49 pan
and the bain of my life an 80 inch ULH kinda like an obsession to get the thing running, ( 1st harley I ever rode was a 74 inch flathead )

so on to the mayhem, I need a set of camshafts and I know a dude that has a set but he does not know if they are 45 cams or big inch cams, can anyone tell me the difference between the 2 types.

I will be asking a whole heap of questions later on, cam shimming, cam timing , distributor timing etc .....so any help would be muchly appreciated

They have different number of gear teeth, but you can distinguish them by the cam lobe height, 1.29 for wl's and 1.39 for the UL's. Camshaft diameter is the same, I think.

Any one fancy counting the teeth on their cams

only if they have the engine dismantled

45 cams have 28 teeth on single gear cams and 28/36 teeth on the double gear cams
big twin flatheads have 32 teeth on the single gear cams and 32/42 teeth on front exhaust cams and 32/40 teeth on the rear inlet cams

Lift is .312 for 45 and .375 for 74/80 if memory isn't failing.

Well after a teeth counting session I am now a proud owner of a set of Ul-Ulh cams in prime condition look to be near perfect, I have been hunting for cams for over 2 years, I really did not want to buy a set of Sifton unless I had to, I cannot thank you enough guys, and I got them for a great price.

After the repsonse I got from you guys I am soon to start rebuilding my 80ULH just valves to source, I have not bought any bearings yet as I intend to split the cases next week to measure the races etc.
And will be putting some pics up of my findings in the depths of said 80ULH
