SHIFTING TIP

due to road-shocks , bouncing on saddle , vibes , etc ...
most of the times you LOOSE precision on the SHIFTING .
gearbox don't like this and answer by a "false-neutral" or some bad sound .

many customers today ask me "how to correctly shift" and that's fun : i become kinda "teacher" :lol:

just this picture to explain the way i ALWAYS shifted with all my WLs and Big-Twins WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS .

the tip is SIMPLE : if your hand stops movin' :
you got all the feeling and precision ya need to correctly shift .
( you also can FEEL the pinions comin'in touch together THRU the linkage TO your HAND )

by-bye false neutral , bye-bye "KRUNK" and others noises .

don't worry : the training will be very short . :D :D :D

Gee.....thanks, we were all wondering how to do that. I always figured if you 'loose' precision on the shifting, you must have a Short between the Seat and the Handlebars! But thanks for the Help anyways.

I see a lot of newcomers to the tank shift and they all ask how to shift it properly. Thanks for the essay on it Fran-6. It will take a bunch of guess work out of it for those newcomers. Pa

I had never operated a hand-tank-shift and foot-rocker-clutch until I bought my first '41 WL basket case, after returning from Desert Storm in '91. A year to the day later, I got my first ride on it. I guess I was so prepared for how I would be operating in, I didn't have any problems. My 12 year old (at the time) son done quite well and it was his first motorcycle to ride to boot.

Hey dal..

where were you at during Desert Storm?

I was at Armamco, IPS-3, then my unit moved to a place called Hafrir Al Betim.

Largest shithole place I have ever been.

I was with B Co, 7/159th Aviation.

I was with the 1083rd Trans Co (HET). We moved several times. We started off at Cement City in Damam, then to Cp Pulaski, then to CCP South, then CCP North (near Hafer Al Batin), then into Iraq for two weeks near Zuba field (north of Basra), then back down to another CCP near Log Base Charlie, then back to Cement City to prep for home.
