Did the MoCo ever build an Overhead Cam Sportster?
I agree that the question implies a "yes" answer, but I'm going to say: No, there never was an OHC Sportster proper.
At least I can't think of one!
I can think of the "high-cam" (KL) and the 880 and V1100 OHC POS protos.....
I wonder if that's what Chris is referring to?

Re: OHC Sportster
They researched building a SOHC sportster to the extent that I have a small copy of the engine design from documents originating from Harley Davidson. This copy I have is based on an ironhead engine............
Re: OHC Sportster
They actually prototyped it.

Re: OHC Sportster
granted that this is probably only a wooden mock-up, but do the cam drives come from opposite sides of the engine?

Those photos were logged in to the Pohlman archive on 10/25/71.
Re: OHC Sportster
I wish I had a protractor handy to figure the cylinder angle.
Chris!
Do you mind if I post those pics to the Jockey Journal's historic "Ugly and Funny Bikes" thread?
It is certainly a contender!

I wonder if the Japanese bought the idea ?
Re: OHC Sportster
Well, ugly or not, at least they got the drive chain on the proper side for once!! Has anyone ever figured how the cross drive originated or why? I just checked and the sport twin had the proper setup. I'm guessing the singles were the first cross drives.
By the by, couple of Illinois farmboy friends of my Dad put a propeller drive on a sport twin in the late 20's early 30's, just for fun I guess. No pics or course. They later built their own airplane, so the story goes.
