Fran,
It looks outstanding, looks like it just rolled out of the factory. Is that a stock frame and do you have any pictures during the build that you could share? Thanks. The pictures are really inspirational. :D

Re: XWL "WARBOY" hits the road

this is the Warboy's raw frame ( still hot from welding ):

Image

this is the XLH 1994 original frame , deeply modifyed to match the WLA's géometry .
only the swing arm and bottom of XLH frame were kept .

notice i have moved foreward the jiffy stand : just to do the same as on WLAs
( each small détail is important )

the lone frame looks really ugly .
but all the assembled scoot perfectly matches the goal :
this is a new way to work in "custom-building"

many friends understood that , seeing the Warboy and the lone frame .
they are now trying to test this new way of working
lots of things to learn before the same résult ....

Re: XWL "WARBOY" hits the road

I have been kicking around an idea similar to this for years, but always got hung up on the tank shift, and didn't want to do it 1/2 way.

There is a guy in town who splattered O.D. green& a white star on the tank of a Twin Cam in a half-assed effort.

You sir, have nailed this...anything that follows this theme will only come up short.

I type this while standing, partially at attention, saluting.

WOW !!!!
I laughed out loud when you removed the battery box lid to access the oil tank; didn't see that coming.

Re: XWL "WARBOY" hits the road

ok, I just saw this when I got ashore.. that's a very interesting bike indeed. I see it has a working hand-change while the previous Sportster-based 45-look-alike didn't - any particular reason for that?

detail is so important, isn't it? Really makes the whole bike fit together...

Re: XWL "WARBOY" hits the road

No , 45 Brit ( if i have understood your question )
the handshift is always fake : just here for déco .
just for the look coz when oldtimers talks about the Libérator : the first thing they remember was the hand-shift .
other reason :
the same tank ( aftermarket trash deeply modifyed to really look like a true 45' tank ) without a shiftgate ....this is ugly .

why i didn't connected the handshift to the footshift ?

because of the shiftgate ( opened in "stairs" ) to much work to plug ( weld ) all this
and after re-open with a straight and FREE long hole .

but :
on the very-next aftermarket catalog i have read :
i have seen now the shiftgate i need to do the job is on the market !

surely on the next scoot !
( connected on the footshift )

Re: XWL "WARBOY" hits the road

I really do like the riding position on that bike. Stock H-Ds of that period are 'just right' with the pogo saddle, footboards and speedster-style bars.

The shovel-head Electra Glides go slightly too far with the buckhorn bars which foul your legs while turning, and the later ones start to lose the relationship in the interests of moving the seat too far back and down, and the footboards up for more clearance.
Shoot, a man could have a good weekend in Dallas with all that stuff...
