1956 khk frame?

Hello, this is my first post on this site. My name is Michael and I have heard some good things about this forum! I have recently inherited a 1956 khk I have all the stock parts minus the rust they have accumulated over the last twenty years. My question is I have taken a springer front end off and would like it back to stock. Does anyone know the rake or perhaps the measurements for the 56 khk frame? I have had no luck tracking any manuals or specs. Or is the 59 sportster frame identical to the 56 khk they look the same, most the measurements match up? Any info or help would sure be appreciated. Thank you! Michael

Re: 1956 khk frame?

Hi, bergman924

Welcome here!!!

Yes, 56 KH frame and early XL/XLH frames have the same dimms, so a 57 or 58 set of Sportster forks and fender will do. Only diff in the frames is the top motor steady, it's cast on the KH and stamped steel on the Sporty.

But the tins and switches will be the hard bits to come buy...

Re: 1956 khk frame?

Thank you frenchowl for your timely response. Fortunately I have the stock parts that will be required to put this sexy machine back to stock, I guess my question is if I set the rake at 30 degrees will the top or bottom tripple clamp hit? I have gotten a mixed responses from some of the vintage harley shops. One told me 28 degree rake the other said 32 degree rake? The manual however for a 59 sportster says 30 degree rake but puts me 2 inches long when I take the measurement from the rear to the front? Stupid Springer front ends!

Hi Michael,

The KH and Sporty steering head angle is 29 and a half degrees when the frame tubes underneath the engine are parallel to the ground.. KH and Sporty tubes/sliders are also parallel to the steering head.
