1948 panhead numbers question

I'm sorry I don't have my books with me now, however could a 1948 pan conceivably have a 5 digit VIN number after the prefix? eg FLE 12345?

It is entirely possible. Here is a 5 digit 1949.

My '47 knuckle has five digits as well 8)
