Side play of connecting rods between flywheels

Hi! The side play of (forked) rod between flywheels mentioned in the manuals is 0.006-0.010". What is your experience with these values or with larger side plays up to 0.04"? Thanks!

I got an assembled flywheel / rod set from Ted's that had over.090" between the forked rod and flywheel. Machinist had to make side washers for flywheels similar to what a shovelhead has.

DID YOUR ASSEMBLED FLYWHEELS COME WITH THE CORRECT RODS ?

The first set came with OHV rods (too short). Bad thing is the whole bottom end was done, sealed up and ready, cams and all before I realized it. I put a piston on and turned the engine over and the piston hit the flywheel.

I was checking the second set a little better and saw the excess rod side clearance before I installed them. The second set also bound up slightly when turning the rods. Had to redo the rod inserts and rollors.
