Hi everyone, can anyone please tell me from what year the shift arm changed from smooth to splined?

Thankyou!

Hi, suicideshovel65,

54 KH is the start of the smooth one, so 52 and 53 for the splined one. They kept the slined one on the racers for some reason.

Thanks Patrick! Did they revert back to the splined type for later sportster models?

Which have you found to be better in your experience?

They reverted back to splines in 77 when they introduced the gerotor Sporty engine and the reengineered left hand gear change with alloy pedal.

Only problem with the unsplined one, you've got to tighten it real tight!!!

125 and Hummers also used the splined shift lever.
