really? that's quite surprising. I hadn't thought there was an engine anywhere that could be lined up with a Velo clutch! I've never really had much to do with them myself, I did have an MOV at one time as a grass track bike and there's a couple of Velo-powered bikes running around in the pre-1958 class with the VMCC, but they are outside my experience a bit.

I'm actually rather a fan of 'American engines in British frames' bikes, my original 45-powered Ariel was quite an eye-opener as to what a bike usually regarded as a heavy old slug could be like with a bit less weight, and better carb and transmission. I've seen pics of a knucklehead engine in a Norton frame ( anyone got any pics of this? It was in one of the 'grey import Harley' mags that were about in the late 80s ) and a Norton-framed Sportster.

another half-remembered bike I'd lke to see some pics of is the KR-framed Sportster-engined dirt bike Harley built for desert racing in the late 1960s, I remember seeing it is Cycle ( I think ) magazine. From recollection, it was tried in the Baja and had a history of breaking itself and not finishing, before being quietly dropped after a couple of years

that's the kiddie. Memory cells a bit faded by the looks of it, 1972 is later than I remembered but it's definitely the same bike, I remember the magazine article too

Seen at HDRCGB's recent International rally in the English Lake District....


BSA A7 frame, C15 tank. I was fortunate enough to have a little blat round the rally site on it ( owner is a good friend of mine) and it rides as sweet as it looks.

that I do like, very much indeed.

is the frame stretched at all? Looking at Dr Dick's 'Frankenstein', and from experience of building my own project bike, I'd guess it is possible to squeeze everything in, just about. 70s choppers using A10 frames and 45 motors were generally stretched by about 3", this isn't hard on an A10 chassis; but they were generally built by people who wanted the bike to be as long and low as possible, anyway.

The engine has to be raised a little anyway to clear the oil-pump, so you get a small benefit from the front down-tube angle, and a slight backwards inclination might be enough at that point.

I'd assume the stock A10 tank would clash with the top of the engine, hence the C15 unit?
