Where Honda engines came from..?

What German motorcycle engine designed about 1950, with overhead cam and single unit crankcase and trans, was the direct inspiration for the early twins Honda designed more than 10 years later ??

I dunno. But the original engine used in the very first Honda's was a washing machine engine.

Guessing Horex probably had quite an influence.

And the Grand prize goes to"""JOHNR"""for the correct answer. I have read of this Horex/Honda connection in several cycle puplications over the years. I had noticed the similarity in the engines already because I own a restored Zundapp Citation which was actually the Horex Imperator design, built and reworked for the American market buy Zundapp after Horex company folded.
