I was there also. It's too bad that the Dream Catcher was unable to pass tech. Hopefully the glitches will be taken care by next year.

Re: Indians at BUB 2008

We worked for two solid days making the bike finished and race ready and then there was a fatality on course. While at tech we were reminded of things that will be forthcoming from the crash . Having spoken to the crahed liners builder the following morning, I really need to take his advice and add 4 things he learned from viewing the managled liner, two of which the tech inspector did not mention, so life goes on.
Basuically we need a more complete front bulkhead, shrouds or protectors around nitrogen bottles and parachute controls, water drip on rear brakes. We ran out of time with a photo shoot on Friday and we were planning ob leaving friday afternoon to start oir 2400 mile return trip.
Next year we will go two days early and start the check list at Crusty's house and then go to tech.

I like your choice of transmission. I have always heard that it takes Harley parts to make Indians go fast. :D

Rocky,
This was my first trip to the exalted Mecca of Land Speed Racing. I did not make a pass. MAYBE next year. It will be on a Knucklehead.

Re: Indians at BUB 2008

tell us more. What is involved in making a pass on an unstreamlined, 'conventional' bike? Obviously comments about 'chutes and bulkheads aren't applicable in this context, but there must be a great deal more than just turning up at the 'Run what ya brung' day at the drag strip.
Shoot, a man could have a good weekend in Dallas with all that stuff...

Re: Indians at BUB 2008

John,
What class are you planning on running at BUB 2009?
Next year we are teaming up with 4 other Indian riders and will be having an "Indian area" in the pits with banners and a Tee Pee as well. Also bringing at least two other Indians to chase variuos records other than streamliner.
As most people realize, the streamliner is an unique form of motorcycle with some magic involved in driving it, so with less work planned for the pit crew next year, we are expanding our effort to include a supercharged scout and maybe a chout.
The rules and requirements are posted at the offical BUB 2008 site, but will require full leathers, kill switches and general safety items.

Re: Indians at BUB 2008

45Brit,

Assuming you pass tech inspection, it IS almost akin to a drag race. Drivers might ease off the line, but thereafter they “pour the coal to it”, attempting to keep the tire hooked up, and providing as much throttle as possible in all gears. Because the bikes are all geared tall, ultimately trying to match the HP peak to the desired mph, it is a long pull up and not something that is over with in 10 seconds like a normal high gear street roll-on might be. Thus they run as hard as they can from the start through the traps. The only fuels allowed are the ones purchased on site (you can not bring your own fuel), and the tanks are sealed after fueling.

Rocky,
At this point if I bring a bike it looks like it will be a Run Wat-cha Brung Knuckle.

John,
Next year at Bub, besides the streamliner, we will be brong two normally asopirated Indian scouts, one supercharged scout and one Indian Chout. There should be a real Tee Pee. Look us up.
