Some of US Would Like The Price Quote Ban Rescinded

To Pa's last statement, True, but .... one reason I quit doing business with the RUBBIE infested stealerships (unless it's an absolutely dealer only item, and they handle very little of what fits my bikes any more) is their attitude of (GASP!) unchecked capitalism, or as some might say, price gouging. BITD (back in the day) the stealerships weren't real hip to us long-haired scooter trash but they took our money and allowed us to hang out there. Posting bikes (and parts) on the bulletin boards "For Sale", was usually an anticipated financial move made to gather funds towards purchasing another new or used bike or part. It was good for business. Now, the Bastards will tear doen anything "For Sale" and unpolitely escort you out the door. F#@* 'em. I stear my business to shops that cater to (read that as appreciate) my being a customer for something other than being a walking-wallet. Are they shops listed on the NYSE, no, but they are some place to go spend an afternoon bench racing and brainstorming, which usually leads to the sale of something.

Anyway, to the point of this topic, I agree in part with Plumber. I'ld like to see a lift on the ban but only as far as it dosen't get out of hand. Like Curt, I too might be interested in buying something I don't need at the moment if the price is right, but I'm not going to email, or PM (don't even know how to do that) everybody that lists anything.

At one point in time, on this board, certian things were left to the descretion of the moderator(s). This might be one of those areas. If anybody gets too carried away they can always be nudged back into line like a good little ant or else stepped on and lose thier posting priviledges. Personally, I believe free trade is good for business and S&S might sell me some parts IF i got something to use them in (or on).

In my opinion, all valid points. But ? We have over 1600 members and the list is growing rapidly. It would be all but impossible to stay caught up with price posting. There are plenty of other forums and sights where price posting is encouraged. Foum policy is email and private messaging. It's tough enough keeping the porn and spam out. Prices are banned only in the forum postings here. To PM someone, one must only click on the uses forum name. Instruction will follow. My wife sells reproduction starter system for Servi Car models. I can't break the rules to advertise her pricing on here. I can tell you to go to http://www.vtwinrebuild.com to see them though. Looky there !! Free advertisement and I didn't break the forum rules. The board ran for a long time before Anders was forced out without an pricing ban and nothing bad ever happened.

Membership was close to a thousand less then also. Open pricing would draw advertisers like flys on crap. If S&S asks me how I feel about the present pricing policy, I'll ask them to keep it. Pa

am I right in thinking that S&S don't post prices on websites? Because if so that would answer the question of what their attitude would be, I think

They post prices on their own websites. So do other vendors and manufacturers. I've yet to see them post prices on other forums or websites though. Pa

personally I would say that the price ban is probably wise. I've seen what happens on other forums that allow it, spam galore

First let me say to Pa and Curt THANK YOU. I don't believe you guys here it enough. Second I would like to say DITTO to S&S for allowing this site to continue. A toast to ALL.

Third, I can (obviously) live without allowing prices. I would do anything to keep from losing this board. Was just putting my 2 (there's no cents key) cents worth in. Definitely not interested in ANYTHING that would increase spam or crap you hafta sift through.

My own opinion is that I'd like to lift the price ban, BUT, I see the downside arguments and have seen what has happened on other boards. I'm for sure on the side that this board is one of the best on the internet. I would be against anything that would change that. So, I would say to continue the price ban because it really isn't too much of an inconvenience to PM the seller. It's not hard to link to a site that will show the prices requested.
JKE is doing a very good job of policing his forum for spam, but I'm not so sure we could keep it as well under control as he does.
The ban really isn't anything worth getting excited about.
