Tube sock motor

Now that I got your attention with the name "Tube sock motor," a friend of mine said that the brass valve covers I machined ressembled a tube sock..ha The motor is 4.875 stroke , .4375 lift cams, releived cylinders and intake ports, panhead ss manifold cut and jigged up for for big flat cylinders with a super B carb and accelerator pump. The manifold is sleeved to 1.375 dia. I used j model decompression plates for my stroker plates, simply open stud size holes. Jigged heads on my rotary table to accomadate pop up, left .032 squish. Cylinders are 13 fin .04 over 80.

The frame is a 34 vl with a 4 speed and later big twin rear drum brake.
rear wheel is a triumph 18 rim laced to star hub. Tanks are late model 45

This bike was built from parts and run great... faster than most late model off the floor bikes... she still needs finishing touches like money but I am haveing a blast as I go. let me know what ya guys think so far.....later bone

Very nice bike, is the black tube near the brake pedal the breather?
I'd just leave out these triangle spacers and use more threads off the cyl.base nuts, or use longer studs!

nice use of brass parts and fasteners. good attention to detail really makes or breaks a custom bikes look! this one makes it!

the hair dryer intake is brillant!

The triangular blanchards under base nuts serve a good purpose, as they distribute fastener stress that contributes to distortion. I have found when torque-plating large over-bored cylinders that they can reduce the installed flex at the spigot by more than a thou", compared to regular lockwashers.

When the Factory introduced them (on 80" Chubbles I believe), they were accompanied with a shorter nut with a larger flanged washing surface.

PS: My "Handy Hannah" has a sliding shutter to control the amount of air coming in the side relative to what goes out the snoot. She's not quite as streamlined as Mudbone's.....nor as fresh of plating...., but definitely a sidevalve model as well!

Nice bike, love the air cleaner and a lot more.

I use the triangular supports under my base nuts on the UL. The nuts I use are a shorter 12 point flanged nut. Use a 1/2" modified box wrench for tightening.

Thanks all of you for the kind words. To answer some of fore mentioned questions-

Yeah Indianut, I would be bone in St.pete, we must know a mutual friend

My wife says the hairdryer snoot is a 60s Dominion brand I paid .25 at a yard sale.

The lower tank mounts are bolted to a tab welded under neck. The tanks are late model servi so the right hand shifter mount was not used.

engine is a 38 ULH

Yeah the blak hose coming from cam cover is an added crank case breather to help calm the storm inside

I am a little embarresed about the zip tie holding the battery down as the brass strap I fabed must have loosened up and fell of the skyway bridge. Made a new one but in my newyear daze have yet to install. ....oh yeah all my axle spacers are of tube sock origin as well.....later all bone

what can i say,great bike,the more you look at it,the more cool stuff you find.lean and mean is the way to go.lkot of hand made parts.your bike gives me ideas,about what my 41u could look like.

Guess oil is in the R/H tank as they're 45 tanks.
