Magnum 18.08.06

My Magnum engine is near completion and I thought I'd post a few pix before it's fully buttoned up and painted. I still have to do the oil feed to the rockers and Zed the breather valve, (tommorrows work). The generator has been converted to 12 volt (utilizing Dr Dick's sagely advice) but not yet shimmed in place although the cams are all shimmed and turn freely in unison. The small details seem to take forever. I'm going to fit the timer but it will have an electronic optical ignition system fitted and will manually advance with a lever on the throttle side.
The 3rd picture in the series shows the relief work required to fit the tappet guides in place. There is also some clearancing of the fins to fit and align the pushrod tubes.
The 4th and 5th images illustrate some of the mods on the pistons. Although I'd planned this thing using as much foresight as possible the piston lightening was done after assembly of the bottom end as I didn't like the notion of the 1/2" crown thickness. We live and we learn.

Hi Billy, yeah it's getting close to completion. Before it goes into a frame I'll mock up a cradle or sub mounting system that I can use to align engine and gearbox perhaps incorporating rubber mounts and I'll use this to fire it up...yes it'll be an eagerly awaited and momentous day.

Vince, Lookin' good, Alot of hard work there, for sure. So, for us northerners, what's "Bundy" ?? :-)
Anyhow, a nice looking motor, and 8:1 should move it out nicely.

Hi Dick, "bundy" is a term used for hydraulc brake piping. I had some 1/4' bundy in my shed. It's steel pipe/tube with a thin copper coating to keep corrosion at bay.

Since the pix were posted above, I've buttoned up the timimg chest, fitted the breather valve and oil pump. The next and final pix will be of the finished motor and of the optical trigger system fitted to the timer. I'm also going to make a timing mark plate that will be read from the engine pulley, like most cars have.

Hi Mike, I think your getting confused with one of your other customers. If you recall, I got a set of WR rods from you for my magnum project...I've got no idea about the K top end.

when my buddy built his magnum the only problem was hard kicking and starting so he ended up using 883 evo pistons and that fixed it.
