Anybody with any knowledge mating flatty right side cases to other year left side cases? I am thinking about running an altenator on my flat.
They make several different alternators that bolt on to the generator boss, for all early HDs.
Seems like the grief youd go through trying to miss-match parts that were never meant to be, would be a tremendous waste of your time.........not to mention the time someone will spend someday trying to fix the "jerry-rig" job someday 20 years from now.
But they are your parts....so feel free to do what you want.

Yes, it has been done and as a matter of fact I was looking at it this morning. A "LOT" of work and welding, but it does look cool and will be a centerpiece wherever it goes. He's even going to run hydraulic tappets in it. In his situation, he's a mechanic and a welder, so the project was a spare time one. If you can't do the work yourself, it'll cost a ton of money to have someone do it based on what I saw when he was doing it and how long it took. If I get pix, I'll have someone post them.

Thanks Panic
Thanks Panic, that was the kind of info I was looking for. I have known OHVs could swap around but didn't know what differances were between OHV and SV (besides motor mount). Sidebar queastion, how do you access the "company news" forum, I can't seem to find my way there anymore? WTF!!!!??????????? Site just told me I CAN'T POST ANYTHING NEW SO SOON AFTER LAST POST (last night! - 12 hours ago) How are we supposed to communicate freely on an open forum. I saw something about the new "moderator" and deletion of the "edit" option or something. What is going on?
This is a little off topic, but I have an old "Choppers" magazine, with a picture of an engine with a BTFH bottom end and a shovelhead top end (and I don't mean a 45 bottom end with a sportster top end). Whether it actually ran or not, I have no idea. But, it is still kinda cool looking.

I have seen several of these hermaphrodites. All of them were built by "Williams Motors". Mike Williams started doing them in his Van Nuys, CA shop back in the 70's. William's Motors/Iron Eagle is now located in Canyon Country, CA. Joe at William's may build one for you, but don't hold your breath waiting for it.
I agree with Pa on the angled pushrod subject. If you look at a Knuckle you'll notice that the intake rockers are "inset" from the exhaust and all pushrods are straighter than the following Pan, Shovel and Evo motors that have all of the head holes "in line". They had it right with the Knuckle so why did the screw up so badly?
I'm also of the opinion that the knuckle oil system (I never owned one, guess somebody out there would like to squirt me) was superior to the Pan in that not only were the feed lines external of the motor but the return system thru the pushrod tubes kept the oil away from the hot cylinders. Seems like the Pan setup with its heating of the rocker oil both coming and going is totally wrong, it'd be just fine if I were one of Santa's Elves and lived at the N. Pole but I live in Texas where its hot.
Been thinking of looking at a set of '63-'65 heads and heliarcing some aluminum bosses to an older set of heads, plug and drill holes as needed to at least fix/update the feed side via the cam cover. Any body ever try this?
