I just tore down my flatrat 45 and both of the pistons had broken ringlans on them there was probley less than 5000 miles on the top end any one have a idea of what I must of done wrong seting it up last time. The piston were after market .060 over that look like stock with the large snap rings and one pice oil rings. and the split down the back of the piston. Thanks for any help
Dotman as I recall there was about .018 end clearence when i installed them, the front cylender although the ring langs were broken the rings thenself were still in tack and look prity good for what they had been through.
Take a look at the area that broke with a magnafying glass and see if you can see any voids. and how where the wrist pin clips? where they dropped or banged together in a box? how much gap (not the end gap of the rings)did the rings to lands have? Zounds kinda like flaky castings
