Gas valve leaks............

Todaywas gonna be the day.... three months of building andall I had to do was put the tanks on, prime the oil pump and whammo! Not so. Got one of those colony Gas shutoff kits that elimainates the reserve rod on the early fatbobs. It comes with brass washers to seal the fittings, Mine leaks where the valve contacts the tank and i have cleaned that surface of all paint and tried 4 times to get a seal, no luck. Is there anything i am missing here all help appreciated, man i want to ride this bike! Roger

You could try annealing the washers,
Weren't the original washers Copper?
Or find suitable fiber ones at your local hardware outlet.

These are the brass washers and after reading some threads i am going to try some copper or suitable hardware store washers. since my bike is not true total restoration I wish somebody could tell me where i could find a regular petcock that would incorperate the right tank also? any ideas?

The original washers were brass, and they didn't work very well.

I use the copper crushwasher for carb bowlnuts,OEM 27376-27. It is exactly the same size, and does not need nearly the torque to seal properly.

Beware of repop petcocks that use a soft nylon or rubber seat inside. They swell shut in P4gas.
