Can anyone point in the right direction? I want to put a horse shoe tank on my 45 but without having a bunch of tanks in front of me, I can't tell what would be best size and shape wise (early Sportster?). I'd love to hear some input or see photos where this has been done. Thanks!

Scott

Harley made a stock horseshoe tank as an option for the WR racing models, I have seen them on Ebay on rare occasion.

And you can own one for about the cost of a basket 45... :P

Rubone speaks true. Those old racing tanks are very dear. HD made two versions, small filler early type for WLDR and large filler late type for WR. They fit onto the WL frame without any mods. I have used early XLCH horseshoe oil tank on WL but it required the removal of the battery box tab from the seatpost and other fabrication of spacers and mounts. There is a guy in Santa Barbara, CA who fabs aluminum racing tanks for KR/XLRs who has made a nice unit for the WL. Go to vintagehdracers.com to check out his stuff.

I'm running a horseshoe tank on my 45 chopper. I bought it from some outfit in Texas about 1974. It was made to fit a 45 perfectly and looks really good on the bike.. If anyone wants to go to the trouble of copying it, I'm sure some arrangements could be made. A small 6v battery fits in the middle. I sure wish I could figure out how to post s pic. OK, I dumped a photo onto my family page, so here's a link to it.

There used to BA a range if such tanks made to fit various British frames, I had a couple if them kicking around at one time.
Shoot, a man could have a good weekend in Dallas with all that stuff...
