QUALITY WL, WR, K, & STROKER PISTONS

Hi Guys,

I am trying to see how much demand there would be for top quality racing pistons for the 45's and if it would be worth doing.

They would be Forged pistons made in the USA by one of the top manufacturers of Power Sport pistons.
They would be similar in construction to what is used in the XR 750 racers.
They would have Teflon coated skirts, supplied complete with standard pin, locks, and rings.
Rings 1mm top, 1.2mm second, 2.8mm 3 piece oil .
Available in flat and domed top, standard and +.040 to start with.
WL's would need pop up heads.
Stroker pistons would also be a possibilty.
They would be an "off the shelf" item with a price in the $150 each range.

hiya bruce ! how ya doing ? i sure do miss all you guys ! bob ran domed pistons in his kr until we couldn't get anymore...then went to flat tops on estep's recommendation. i don't know who all is running domed but bob's bike never ran the same without his berndt cams and dome pistons. one thing that would be useful is a fixture to cut the domes in the heads... perhaps something simple that would run up thru the cylinder to simply index the dome.there's plenty of blueprints out there showing the underneath of the heads.gosh i miss racing sometimes.. and building the bikes... i'll try to hit an ahrma race this next year to say hi. barry jenkins 49B

Hi Barry,

It's been a long time. I look forward to seeing you sometime.
I had thought about offering a service to cut the pop up for the Wl heads but never thought about doing it for the dome. I could do that as well.

Just as an aside, I saw some prototypes of Bruce's pistons as Jefferson, and they are truly works of art. Very nice, now if you could make them for BT flatheads :D

What type of rings are available for the comp. grooves ? I'm in for a set of .040" Dome tops if you can do the heads as well, thanks for the offer, Tim

Re: QUALITY WL, WR, K, & STROKER PISTONS

Hi Tim,

I already make WR heads with the 49R combustion chamber, and the WL & WLDR heads with a modified 49R chamber to accomidate the straight valves.
The combustion chamber to use the domed piston on the WR is already programed for the CNC.

Top Ring: 1.0mm chrome faced steel
2nd Ring: 1.2mm cast iron, phosphate coated
Oil Ring: 2.8mm chrome faced rails

Hello Bruce, I have a customers motor thats getting freshened up with a pair of your WR heads on it, must be working since he's been out front most of the time and won the championship, never had much luck with chrome faced rings, I've found that cast iron seat much quicker and thats a positive on a race engine ( jmo ), still interested in a pair of those domed pistons and maybe more if they work out, Tim
