WLA Generator drive gear

45 newbie here so be gentle.
Generator drive gear has a oil slinger in gear that should press against the brass spring loaded seal in timing case cover, correct.
When I set lash and went to install the cover , 1 the slinger hits on the timing cover like the diameter is to big, 2 the diameter is so large that the slinger hits the brass pins that retain the spring loaded seal for lack of a better term. Any help would be great.

Three things come to mind. 1) wrong gear, 2) aftermarket armature with a shaft that is too long, and 3) a poorly made aftermarket gear.

What is the diameter and width of the slinger? What is the overall length of the gear? The 1937-1957 gear's slinger diameter is 1-11/32" and the overall length is 1-11/64". The slinger's outer width is 11/32" and steps up at the center to 23/64".

3. In my humble opinion (new generation "IMHO") everything made aftermarket is poorly made.

There are several drive gears with slingers. A #632-32 for 1932-1936 RLs, #632-37 for 1937-1957 45 models, like your WLA, #31075-58A & 58B for 1958-1973 Servi-Cars, #31071-52A for 1952-1957 Ks & XLs, and #31071-58 for 1958-1962 Sportsters.

The 1958 & later gears are held to the shaft by an end nut so do not have a lock pin hole.

The -52A K Model & 57XL gear might give you grief as it is both wider and longer. The diameter of the -52A gear is 1-5/8" and it is 1-13/64 long.

Sounds like 1958-1962 Sportster #31071-58.
