When trying to install my cam chest cover it starts to bind up when it is about halfway on. At that point the the wheels are bound as well. Everything moves freely without the cover on. The cams slide easily into the bushings in the cover when out of the crank case.
If it actually binds up halfway on, it would sound to me like you have the wrong cam gear [later cam gear] in the rear intake position or you have the wrong gear cover for the cam set being used. It would be an endplay issue.
If memory serves me correctly, the length difference between early and later cam gears is roughly 3/32". Will the cover go on all the way if you do not have any of the cam gears in it ? You can also tell if you have the wrong cam in it if the cam lobe looks to be off center when looking down through the tappet block opening.
Pa, yes the cover goes on fine with an empty chest. I will try installing one cam at a time then the cover to see just when the binding starts. Just need to get home so I can spend some quality time with my project.
