front brake/wheel alignment

Hi Folks im messing around with a front brake from a conical (the one with the air scoop ) to see how i could make it fit using the current Harley brake arm setup to try it out. if i position my front wheel slightly closer to the brake arm side causing the wheel to be slightly off centre, can i take it that it will make for poor handling, cornering etc.??
Re: front brake/wheel alignment
it won't help, for sure. The only reason I can see to do this would be the alignment of the anchor arm, I would have thought this could be resolved using a shouldered bolt at the fork leg?

Re: front brake/wheel alignment
lossen spokes, offset rim required amount, retrue, ride (you should be able to get 1/2-3/4" offset without replacing spokes)
Re: front brake/wheel alignment
yes 45 brit , it is for the alignment of the anchor arm - maybe a longer shoulder bolt would do it as its only offcentre by 1/2 inch or so.
Ralph - as the wheel currently is true - i'd prefer to leave it be if possible.

Re: front brake/wheel alignment
if the anchor arm is a special piece, which I assume it would be, could you not spilt the misalignment between a shouldered bolt, an additional washer at the brake plate and a small offset in the arm, just crank it a few mm?

Re: front brake/wheel alignment
im gonna use the original harley brake arm/shackle 45brit . when i turn the brake shackle around facing inwards toward the brake plate it helps a bit and i might get away with a few spacers - and "splitting the misalignment" as you suggest , its still all conceptual anyways at the moment, as im trying to combine different wheel bearings on the BSA wheel but using a harley axle also. My access to tools is limited so im seeing if i can work with what i've got !.if i ever get it to work i'll post a pic
Re: front brake/wheel alignment
careful !
two "fake-twins" arms :
the WLA and the WLC( big-twins also )
they look identical
but are NOT with the same offset .
so
are you SURE you get the good-one ???

Hi Fran -6
not sure i understand will you explain further please, im currently using the WLC big twin setup and i want to use the same brake shackle for the new setup also , iwill also mount the Harley Pivot to suit the big twin shackle onto the BSA brake plate.
Am i sure i got the good one ? i'll prob only find that out when i take a header out over the bars

Re: front brake/wheel alignment
fran-6 is saying that there are several brake anchor arms for different applications which look similar but vary dimensionally. The WLA and WLC brakes differ in that one brake is built into the wheel in a manner similar to a BSA, while the other one is a detachable unit like a Big Twin and the brake plate offset and the related anchor arm varies "according" . The Big Twin brake assembly looks the same but varies a little and again, has a brake arm to suit.
I didn't suggest this because very few people have the parts available to compare them side-by-side and choose the one with the best fit, I was assuming you had the shackle from the original bike and would go with that.

Re: front brake/wheel alignment
ya gimme a doubt ...
but i am pratically sure the WLA and WLC brake-arms seems twin-bros , but aren't the same
it's not a question of shape
it's a question of offset .
i'm gonna check this ...

Re: front brake/wheel alignment
sorry
they are exactly the same in offset .
( the différence is just about greasers location )
i've said nothing
please : forget that
