I was told by an old hand at preparing 45s for racing that you get optimum performance by having the holes in the nozzle facing inwards, towards the manifold.
To ensure they face this way, make a mark on the nozzle tip that shows, opposite to the holes.
Otherwise, when you tighten the float bowl nut, the spring and nozzle will also rotate to start off. Hold the nozzle in position with a screwdriver blade as you tighten the bowl nut, so you can see the mark you've made from the carb mouth.
It's not crucial...
