wire size

Does anyone know the wire gage size on 1940's era Harley wire harnesses, going into the ignition switch, etc. Not sure if 16 or 18?

Steve, not an antique expert, but if memory serves, most of the stock 6V wiring I've seen was 14ga for big draws, and 16 for smaller stuff. Something like the timer might have been 18ga. As always, bigger is better.
