For some light reading you might want to go to the following website: ... ageID=2007

I originally wrote this review for my kids but it got picked up and published on My first motorcycle in 1965 was a 1939 Indian Chief. My main ride today? A 1939 Indian Chief.....I get to be 19 again. I think anyone who has ridden, or wanted to ride, one of these wonderful relics will enjoy this review.

Good Stuff John! I am fortunate to have a 39 Chief as well, rescued from the basement it was stored in for at least 35 yrs. The previous owner had removed the engine and trans to lighten the rig as he lowered it down his ladderstairs with a rope. Luckily it was a very dry basement and the old girl is well preserved. After some fooling around, it is a good strong runner. A very different ride from the H-D motorcycles of the same era.
