Oh god here we go again..741 Strokers!

Hi Guys,

I am gonna ask you all to bear with me as I am probably going to end up asking lots of questions that have been asked before, but as I dont have an extensive knowledge of the entire Indian range (in fact its very basic), nay, in fact I only know a little about what I have, that is a rather run of the mill 741. So I can only ask for your understanding as I am trying to put together a stroker engine for attemt to coax out a little beast from its internals!

Can anyone tell me if the Bonneville Cams for the Sport Scout will run without any problems on the 741 engine? I cant see why they wouldnt, but its worth asking.

Maybe its also worth telling you what I had in mind with my project...like many others that have gone before me.

I have some old WLA flywheels and conrods, so these are going in the cases. (I have a second bottom end which I will retain as a standard 741 set up should I need it). Have got a price from Moen for pinon shafts, however if anyone else can recommend suppiliers that can supply them, then more quotes the merrier. (I know its probably easier to use Indian flywheels etc, but its just not as cheap to pick up stuff here as it is in the good ol USofA, so the costs start to really run away).

I am looking at either grinding out the old 741 manifold intake to 1 inch internal dia to run with the old Linkert 741 Carb with enlarged venturi, or I just say to hell with it and get serious and grind off and weld in new 1 1/4 intake nipples into the barrels and run a M88 Linkert to allow it breath.

I am looking at the Bonneville Cams, but wondered if the lift was significanlty more than the old 741 cams?

What seems to be a popular piston choice for these types of stroker porjects? I wasnt going to select anything until I get the bottom end made and I can get some measurements done once its all in place so as to get a better idea of what choices I can make if any.

Thats the main issues that I am working on at the mo, any comments or advice (good or bad!) you may have, it would be much appreciated.

741s love Bonney cams, even better if you can find the Bonney lifts. You ought to checkout the Chief stroke wheels Panic is having Truet & Osborne make that take regular Scout Pinion and Drive Shafts with Sportster Crank Shaft and Rods. If you change to Scout cylinders Rocky has pistons for this setup. Or if cash is a severe issue check out the VI archives Mathias Elevankemper posted several letters with piston part #s on 741s with 741 cylinders. I'm building yet another blower setup (belt driven centrifigal this time)for my 741 and leaving the displacement stock. The first several mules have proven the concept but haven't made it anywhere every day rider status yet.

I checked out the Victory site and have a copy of his very good carb book.
Good to hear that the Bonne Cams are good to go, and have a set on order. Running the bottom end down to my local motor man to look over for getting that WLA flywheel in.

Been away from the forum for a while, thanks for the info. I have now sourced my pinon shafts onto the next thing!
