Can any of ys Indian folks help me out here?

I need to know what year/model this Inidan is
V twin
2.875" bore
VIN S1389W and next to the vin boss the letters BMThanks

2 7/8" is 45cid Scout. Unfortunatly those engine numbers have been changed, probably a rebuilders number. Scout engine engine numbers start out with 3 letters F for Scout and two more for the year A=1 B=2 ect and BM is for Bonneyville Magneto.

The VIN boss hasn't ever been "ground on". Do ya think maybe the cases were NOS dealer replacements?
But then why would the "BM" be stamped on them already? Can ya tell me more about the "BM"? What carb would this motor use? Maybe it has a racing cam also? Is there any other way to verify the year on Indian cases (like HD's belly numbers, etc)

No upper timing plug 1940 back
Cam cover for Iron oil pump 1938 and up
Serial number is probably from a rebuilder the BM is larger than I remember.
Pistons look like Bonneys
Time to uncover the cams and see if they are bonneys
Looks like a good find
Did it come with Jugs and heads?

So are ya saying it is a 1938,39 or 40 model? Is there any way to narrow it down further? Does any one else on the board have a left case or motor that has the " B M " on them to check the comparison? How do I tell if the cams are Bonneville cams? The dude I got it from is looking to see if he still has the heads,jugs,manifold and carb.

Who sells the best service manual on this particular motor ?

What is the round part on the bottom of the right case?

Is what is missing off the ride side of the motor (oil pump?) readily available? I rebuilt a 45" HD motor for this guy 6 years ago and it is about ready to give up the ghost. With way this guy drives, I can't believe the motor held up for even 6 months.He told me that if I would rebuild his flywheels and bore his cylinders, he would give me an old Indian motor he had laying around the shop for the last 6 or 7 years. I figured that was a good deal !!!!! Can someone tell me where I could find a good right side pof the bike picture of what this model would look like when it was new?

Need to see the cylinders and oil pump to narrow it down mutch more.
when you get the cams uncovered you should be able to identify them at this url http://virtualindian.org/8techcams.htm
the round part is the oil sump, it has a flapvalve screen and a oil pickup tube.
the cast iron oil pumps show up on ebay fairly often the 38 had a smaller bore any 39 or newer Scout or 741 will fit and the differences would only matter to a restorer.
