I ment to post this with the pictures the other day but broke my glasses so was typing with one eye covered but I guess late is better than never.
Since every one was talking about presurised induction for 741s last week on the Virtual Indian board
I got a couple of pictures of a 741 with a smog pump serving as a blower that
is still in the mule (devlopment) phase. This pump displaces about 13.5 ci.
per revolution and is over driven about 30% I modifyed the porting too allow
higher flow as the origional ports didn't allow for any increase in flow
when the pump was turned faster. The Linkert now has orings on all shafts
and the bowl vent is drilled into the inlet area just behind the choke. It
still isn't right enough to accept pressure below 1/4 throttle. When I first
started I tried venting the fuel tanks into the blower manafold thinking
that I could retain gravity feed but with out huge lines the pressure in the
tank lagged the blower manafold pressure enough to cause fuel starvation an
hard acceleration so it has a electric fuel pump and a pressure regulator.
The first test runs showed very high cylinder head temp so the cams were
changed to Bonneyville wich resulted in much lower temps. This was a old
Flathead Ford blower trick. Although the increased cam overlap reduces
cylinder pressure and forces more over drive the wasted mixture cools the
chamber nicely.
I will do a indepth artical for a future VI but thought that a little
list discussion would help point me in the right direction.
