Steering damper

Hi all. Just a question for anyone that can help. I have a steering damper that a friend picked up many years ago at a swap meet in Wisconson. It is a Crocker steering damper. I always believed this to be from a Crocker motorcycle but as of late I have seen similar ones on Indians. Anyone know for sure? wre these a period accessory?

The Crocker dampener was an aftermarket accessory for Chiefs.

I literally un-earthed one from a barn floor last spring. I still need the early version of the thang that sticks downward on it. I don't know what you call it, but Michael Breeding makes fantastic reproductions of both vintages of assemblies http://www.cnsp.com/mbreeding/

You have a very desireable piece!

Wasn't Crocker initially an Indian dealer? One of the guys that worked for him developed a OHV conversion for 101 Scouts, I guess a steering dampner wasn't out of the question.

The guy`s name was Bigsby..the same dude who hung out with Leo Fender of Fender guitars. Bigsby invented the vibrato- whammy-bar. Creative ,eh?
