Indian Scout 640 frame?

Can anyone point me to a resource to find a solid 640 frame to build out from? Thanks in advance!

Good luck in your search. I've been looking for a 36 scout front frame section for about 10 years. No body likes to part with this stuff while they are alive, much less at a reasonable price. If money is no object try Ziggy http://www.ziggysmotorworks.com/project ... /40640.htm He has a several fairly complete 40 SS baskets.

the way you do this is simple....

1) go back to about 1978
2) advertise
3) buy the best one you can and store it for 30 years
4) buy any other stuff you see, store it and sell it 20 years later


joking apart, good undamaged stuff had pretty much run out by the late 70s, prices started to ratchet sharply up in the 80s and have never looked back. Most people on boards like this are building bikes using parts they bought 25 years ago, or swapped for other stuff they bought 25 years ago.

If I could go back I would go back to 1964 when I bought a room full of Scouts for $32.00 each and then not let them all go at a reasonable profit. I still have one 741 out of that lot I have owned it three different times and paid more for it in worse shape each time. Same bike I left the tire tracks on the ceiling of the 7-11 with.

Sounds like a golden egg, man I wish I could go back and buy some of these up :^) How about plans to fab. a frame out? any one know where I can get my hands on an accurate blue print? Thanks guys for all your insight!

Something like four tubes, seven castings...if you could find neck casting you could likely find the others. A complete or nearly so group of 741 castings went for $82 or so on ebay two years ago, never saw a complete set after that, and have never seen a 640 neck lying around. You may be ahead to fit a scout motor into a vertical frame as was reportedly done after pre-vertical scouts dried up & spares were built to race on vertical chassis.

I also like the time machine idea suggested, but that wouldn't work so well for me. I would go back & try to hook up with some of the young ladies & opportunities
I passed by when I was younger and (considerably more) stupid...

There is an Indian outfit (literally, East India) reproducing fuel tanks, and front ends, I saw them listed on ebay. Maybe front/middle frame is next.

If you are still around this board you better check Ebay there are two 640 rear sections listed right now. I'll be biding against you on the one that Indian Wayne has but wont bid on the one with the broken side stand mount. Michael Breeding made a repair piece for this common brake.
