New Scout Barrel - loose inlet nipple

Thanks to Panic and Cottens persistance of the possible dreaded intake tract leak being the root of my problems and with finally using Cottens excellent leak detection instructions I found the front cylinder inlet nipple to be loose.
The cylinders are new Scout barrels from Flathead power - Sweden with less than a 100 miles on them. I'm not blaming anyone as with all things of this nature someone along the line has trucked up - possibly me ( I'm the third owner of the bike in less than a year !) so what I need to do is sort this out efficiently and at reasonable cost.
My questions are:
1) Are the nipples screwed into the heads or pressed in on these repro barrels.
2) The manifold nut is rotating with the nipple, my best guess is to cut the nut carefully- any other suggestions ?
3) Depending on 1 above, if threaded, will I be able to make a repair without removing the barrel or is re-machining and a new nipple a foregone conclusion.

Hey jib, thanks for the lead on that website, a search near enough told me what I wanted to know - that I'm up the creek.
Is there anyone over here in the UK who could make up a nipple and do the repair on the barrel ?

i cant see why not, a good motorcycle restoration shop should be able to do that kind of thing irrespective of the name on the tank, get a copy of ''classic bike'', there is at least one company advertising in there who ,would say yes or no.
45brit might have an actual place to mind ,if you wait on a bit.

not haveing had my hands on a indian ,is the nipple held from rotating like a harley one by a nipple cos if so is it possible to put that cylinder on compression strok, so valve is closed drill out the head of old rivit, drill through the nipple ,bang in something hard but not brittle and then undo the nut normally, then you could see what is occuring.

The biggest problem I usually find is actually getting anything done in any reasonable period of time. A lot of shops are primarily interested in building complete bikes and/or selling parts, one-off jobs that tie up shop time with no "added value" don't always get a lot of attention.

I would try a racing engine builder for that kind of job. They are used to people bringing in broken bits, after all. They are also used to doing things with inlets, and usually have the facilities for brazing, welding cast iron and have the big taps and dies for inlet size threads.

Try Mike Pemberton at Pushrod Performance.

You might also try Fenland Choppers in Wisbech. Joe has done a lot of the fabrication for my 45 project, and he's a handy man when it comes to fabrication. He rewelded my speedway shoe the last time I was there...

I'd also suspect that the other barrel probably needs attention as well. I'd certainly check it while the engine was apart.

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I'm fairly well situated for machinists around here, however, for something as awkward as this I'd realy like to go on very high reccomendation.

45brit / jib - As the front cylinder intake nut was undone the nipple came undone as well (rivet sheared or no rivet in first place) I now have a stripped/damaged nipple or cylinder thread to sort out, but only on the front cylinder as the rear was airtight and firmly in its place, also the rear cylinder nipple is done up as you remove manifold nut. I think I can strip down front cylinder whilst engine is still in frame.

if you have a machinist you know, go there. This isn't really a specialist motorcycle job at all.

Does this mean there are new scout cylinders??? or are these "old" (pre 2010) new cylinders...
