LEATHER RESTORATION

I RECENTLY SCORED AN ORIGINAL DELUXE SEAT FOR MY 39EL ALONG WITH A SET OF THE EARLY BAGS. I USED SADDLE SOAP TO CLEAN THEM. IT SEEMS TO CLEAN BUT DOESNT LEAVE A NICE SOFT FINISH. I HEARD OF USING LINSEED OIL AND BEESWAX COMBINATION. ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED. LOOKING FORWARD TO RUNNING ORIGINAL LEATHER ON MY PUTT. ALOHA, JD

Linseed is a drying oil and will harden and make the bags & saddle stiff as a board.
Far better to use a Neatsfoot oil or lanolin based dressing available from saddlers etc.

Try saddle soap.

I have used Hide Food, a lanolin based paste, that is sold at car places. It's made for leather seats. It's now called Connorly Hide Care. Give it a try on the fender side of the bag to see if the results are what you want. It should be rubbed in using your fingers and allowed time to be absorbed. It feeds the fibers of the leather and does a good job bringing back that nice supple feel.

I also had a '39 Deluxe solo. I used Lexol cleaner then the conditioner.
It worked very well. Nice Saddle!

the saddle soap cleaned it well but left dry. Mr Paquette from Worsham Castle Leather Restoration told me to try glycerine for 2 - 3 weeks, then use lexol or a leather balm. After doing this for only 3 days its showing a huge difference. the leather is in decent shape already and softening up nice. cant wait to finish and run it!!! nothing like good original parts. mahalo for the help!!! aloha, jd
