1940 knuckle vin font

Re 1940 knuckle vin font . One of my friends insist font is wrong on my 1940 knuck i have owned and ridden for last 35 years . Number pad is unmolested, and numbers seem to agree with Palmers older book. Would like to locate clearly legible photos of known good numbers used in 1940 by the motor co. ,paticularly the # 4 and # 1 also the letter E and the letter L so i can compare. Have seen referace to different fonts used but nothing definitive .Have searched topics ,can not find what is needed

One of our co-moderators, Curt!, used to host a site that had a wide range of serial number photos, covering all years and models. The site no longer appears to be up and running, but you might want to contact him directly for relevant examples.

Re: 1940 knuckle vin font

I tried the attachment option, Folks!

As I have a pic of a VIN that clearly shows that the 40 portion was a single, separate stamp.
And I have a 'belly" pic too, but the site tells me: "The image must be at least 0 pixels wide, 0 pixels high and at most 650 pixels wide and 0 pixels high. The submitted image is 948 pixels wide and 368 pixels high."

Hard to resize the height to zero.

Resize your pic to 700 high Cotton and if that does not work for you, email it to me and I will put it up for you. I will also report the issue to the webmaster. Pa

Re: 1940 knuckle vin font

Urganb, the tandem-stamped 40 seems common for that model year and the 1941 prototype Knuckle (1940 engine) on page 554 of Palmer’s first 37–64 book seems to have been done with a tandem 40 but I don’t know if all 40s at the factory were done with a tandem stamp.

And I sent you a PM.
