lower valve tins

Does anyone offer a quality lower tin replacement? Vtwin has a listing but their quality has always been questionable.

I have recently had the displeasure of having to purchase a new set of V-Twin brand Knuck heads. The rest of the heads needed a complete rebuild to be serviceable, but the lower tins were surprisingly good. The biggest flaw that I noticed is that the oil tubes have a "copper" plating which did not "take" the parkerizing. In one way that is a good thing since it makes them easy to spot as not being originals.

BTW- the earlier spring cups from V-Twin were not as nice, with less than normal width on the top gasket surfaces

I did get the lower tins in from Vtwin. Haven't really started the install process yet. I will try to get pics as it goes.

They are copper lines, not copper plated. Originals had steel lines.

Chris, my assumption that the lines were copper plated was based on that they were brazed into the cups. After reading your comment though, I realized that I did not really know if you can braze to copper or not (still don't). So I took a closer look.

I was able to sand off a section of the copper plating, and I even used some gun bluing on it. Sure enough the sanded section took the color OK. Of course that's not to say that they did not use copper lines on some of their covers, only that these recently purchased ones have steel.

Lines are not copper. They look that way but can be picked up with a magnet.
