FOUND A RIGHT SIDE KNUCKLEHEAD GAS TANK WITH CORRECT PETCOCK INSTALLED BUT RIGHT BEFORE THE FRONT OF REAR ROCKER THERE IS A "STEP" LIKE '40 AND LATER. COULD THIS BE A FACTORY REPLACEMENT TANK? IT IS DEFINITLY OEM. ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPREACIATED. ALSO CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHERE TO FIND THE CORRECT WHEEL BALANCING WEIGHTS, I WAS HIT WITH A 1/4 POINT FOR INCORRECT WEIGHTS. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

I have never seen a factory photo of a bike with weights or seen them in a parts or accessory catalogue. So a weight would be an aftermarket accessory.
Perhaps remove the weights for judging. A spot on the spoke with a Sharpie will let you know when to replace it after judging.

How about a photo. I am confused by your description. But then again I am easily confused. :D

The "modern" wheel weight is actually one of Harley's inventions, at least they are the ones that got the patent for it. It is attributed to Ed Kieckbusch, I think he was the one that took over the engineering department after the original Bill Harley. Anyway, he was granted the patent for it in January 1942 so if you have one of this type on a bike any older than that it would probably be wrong. It must have been a pet trivia thing of the judge that spotted it and clipped you for that.

if I'm lucky I should be able to get the page from the patent book to post here.

FlatheadSix,
Thanks for posting pic . It does appear to be the same weight. I think I'm going to do what Chris recommended. By the way Chris I'm working on getting a pic posted of the tank. Thanks guys!
