Antique Transport Museum - Campo, Calif.
This is worth the trip if you're ever motoring out in the east county of San Diego. Usually only the caretaker is around. He'll let you in the gate to roam around. Leave them a few bucks to keep the lights on. It's quiet out out there - nothing going on except a light breeze rattling some the corregated siding and a yard full of industrial memories. The trucks are as they were the last day on the job - a beer opener was still hanging on a hook behind the operator, in the cab of some solid rubber ACE relic with a derrick-crane bed. Most of this equipment was left over from when the first paved road (old U.S. 80) was created back in the days of steel wheels. All decomposed granite out there. Just about dust-free.
