Hi All,

I bought some military surplus valve guides off ebay, from Vietnam and have been very busy getting all the cosmoline of them. Does anyone know what they are made of typically? They look like steel.... What is your experience in using them on K models or what do you prefer. I had Rowe' in there at one time that looked like bronze, but they did not last real long... What do y'all recommend? What can you tell me about the military ones?

The only others we could find, now they want $29 dollars apiece for them?

Flatheads oil the valve stems so little that they need high silicone cast-iron. I know that there are people who swear by this or that varation of bronze but I just valvejobed a Indian 741 that didnt have enough wear to warrant replacing the 70 year old guides. Back when you couldn't find guides I would bore out the origional guides and press a turned down 6 cyl. Cat guide. Cat and Ford tractors seem to use the best cast-iron.
