Definately a 2 person machine.Seems like one good sized person perched out to the side like that could really get it tilting back on his side. Especially if the empty side hits a bump. Stick another wheel on it and call it a jeep.

Or remove one of the front wheels and call it a "sociability".

This was a fairly common style of tandem in the golden age of bicycles, in effect two bike frames side by side with a single wheel front and rear. I've ridden one solo, and it was surprisingly easy to do, the bike leaned quite a bit but you hardly notice it.

In the Schickel book, there are some pages with a Mr Gale pulling a 4 wheel pionner wagon while his sons ride side by side on a tandem Schickel Lightweight motorcycle while doing some transcontinental cross country journey in 1915...

I had an uncle, blinded in the 1930s, who had a composite bicycle if this sort; he rode it with his sighted wife, who actually steered, controlled and provided instructions as necessary. It survived into at least the 1970 s and seemed to handle well enough.
